Autonomous Undersea & Surface Vehicles (AUSVs)

San Diego-based SubSeaSail®, Inc. (SSS) is Changing the Math with "the small, the agile, the many, the invisible, the attritable" to revolutionize human interaction with the ocean including ocean warfare. We are developing two series of disruptively affordable, 100% energy harvesting (wind + solar), long-duration, ultra-low signature, sailing vessels - Autonomous Undersea & Surface Vehicles (AUSVs) - that can function above and below water down to 100 meters. These are a lightweight, semi-submersible ISR/Observation vessel named HORUS™ and a fast, trimaran vehicle called HERMES™ to deliver goods and energy to the beach. We will partner with contract manufacturing firms to be able to produce thousands of AUSVs per annum to meet market demand as it grows. When not already available in the market, SSS is also developing unique, low-SWaP (Size Weight and Power) products and sensors that can work above water, submerge repeatedly to depths of 100 meters, and function again on the surface.

Our AUSVs are virtually invisible vehicles above water that can listen, monitor and report back as well as submerge to hide from bad weather, bad actors and to listen/monitor underwater. They are designed to be low CAPEX (up front expense), low OPEX (operating expense because they are lightweight and 100% energy harvesting) and low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO based on both on-board sensors and ability to submerge).

Climate change is resulting in more frequent and violent storms. The ocean is an “anvil” and waves act like hammers. The ability to submerge will dramatically reduce the risk of loss of vehicles to the pounding of waves and lighting strikes that are far more powerful on the ocean than on land. Both HORUS™ & HERMES™ are designed to be self-righting - which is a world’s first multihull self-righting capability with HERMES. SSS vessels and sensors are being engineered for simplicity and protected with patents. As of August 2025, SSS has 11 issued, 8 pending and 3 provisional patents with more coming. Our AUSVs will be applicable for an array of ocean uses across academia, defense, government, industry and non-profit sectors. SSS systems will allow humans to better understand and protect the Earth’s most precious asset.
